Arisia Panel Schedule
Jan. 13th, 2006 10:25 amSo, Someone thought it might be a good idea to stick me on some science panels at Arisia...
The Shape of The Universe (Saturday, 4 PM) - "Cosmology and subatomic physics have evolved a compelling picture of our universe, but many of the concepts and terms are opaque to the casual observer. What is our current picture of the Big Bang? We will present the whole picture, from inflation theory and
negative energy fields to superstrings, quantum 15 gravity and 10-dimensional space."
(This one has an enthusiastic moderator, and we've collectively done some actual preparation.)
In the Year 2525… (Sunday, Noon) - "What social, economic and technical advancements are we likely to see in the next 5, 50 and 500 years? What’s possible? Which improbable plans might actually work? Which seem likeliest to fail? Which governments will prevail? Will nations as we know them still exist?"
Staying Local (Sunday, 2 PM) - "With nine (and now ten) planets and dozens of satellites to play with, what could we do with current to near-future technology? How far could we get in our exploration of the solar system if we really pushed the bleeding edge of tech? Mars? Titan maybe? Orbital habitats, terraforming, and beanstalks are just some of the ideas out there."
(Sunday afternoon, near and after checkout time, is not when I'd expect to have a panel for which people actually show up. We have not, as a group, gotten prepared, but these are more speculative, anyway. And hey, they get me a comp, so I can't complain.)
