Serendipitous Frog
Apr. 27th, 2011 10:14 pmThe company I've been working for during most of the past year as acquired by Google. Unfortunately, I was working for the IT team, and as you might imagine, Google has a very solid grasp of IT. I'm no longer needed, so today was my last day in the office.
Now, this isn't a major hardship. I was warned well ahead of time that this was going to happen, and either the economy has improved enough, or I got my mojo back, or I just got lucky - I have a couple of days off, and I start in a new job next week.
But still, it isn't a happy thing to be the guy who doesn't get to move ahead with the others to the Cool Thing. Google's big, and in some ways a bit scary, but working there would definitely have been Cool. As I started the walk from the office in Cambridge to the T, the fact that I apparently don't get to have the Cool Thing was filling my head. It rattled around in there for the walk to the T station, and the ride on the train, so I had a nice half hour of being a drek-head.
When I got off the train, I recognized that being maudlin and generally down on myself and my place in the world was not constructive. To distract myself, I turned on my mp3 player...
Are all mp3 players psychic or something? Or is it just mine?
The first tune up for my two mile walk home? "Moving Right Along," from The Muppet Movie - Kermit and Fozzie singing to me about how opportunity knocks once, and how you have to reach out and grab it, and how the journey is the thing.
Timing, they say, is everything.
