Who rolled over?
Hm. My brother has fed me an interesting story related to the NSA phone call database.
In essence, maybe some of the telcos did not knowingly and willingly hand over our telephone call information. Several phone companies hand their billing tasks off to an Israeli company, Amdocs - and that by necessity would include the sort of call information found in the database. There's signs that Amdocs and the NSA were both well aware of the value of the data Amdocs held.
So, who did turn this information over?

The semiotics of "is" seems, shall we say, less compelling than these fine parsings over details of huge legal violations.
