Candied Anchovy

A coworker of mine had a package of some form of Asian snack food that contained little candied anchovies. They've got the flavor of kippers, with a touch of herby sweetness, and the texture of a sliver of the deep fried onions used on green bean casseroles.

These are not a food I'd particularly recommend. I needed a cup of something strong to wash the taste out of my mouth, lest I be tasting fish all afternoon. The worst part of the experience was that Smedley got named before I ate him, because he had this cute little dried fishy face looking at me, and he was dried in a little curved arc, like he was jumping out of the water...

Unfortunately, "Smedley," was the name of a betta I had as a kid, and a word we used for, "small, specklike thing," from a series of cartoons we wrote in junior high. This little fellow fit on both counts.
