What People Don't Tell You...

Okay, fine, enough. I know every single person who has asked me the question today has meant well. I've had to tell the polite lie of omissions several times, because they don't know what they're asking, and don't deserve the otrrent that is the full reality of the answer.
But, I really ought to jot it down. I am quite sure I'll be able to use it for perspective later.
No, I didn't have a happy birthday. I had a craptastic birthday.
I'm out of work. It is taking me forever to fully recover from a nasty cough. There are leaking faucets in the house that are driving me nuts but I still can't find time to fix them. My wife's been laid up for the past couple days with lower back problems that have her uncomfortable, frustrated, bored, and feeling undeservedly guilty for ruining my birthday. If she doesn't get better, we'll have to cancel a trip to a larp next weekend.
Oh, and a moment ago I went into the bedroom where my wife lay sleeping, to fetch a glass of water I left there. In the process I kicked a wire, and stumbled into the bed. My poor sleeping spouse got woken with such a start that her back muscles clenched again for a moment, and she cried out in pain. And, of course, I knocked the PS2 that was on one end of the cable off the dresser. Using it as a DVD player helps keep her boredom away while she's laid up. So, I figure if it turns out I have broken it, the day will have turned out about as perfect as I could have hoped for.
So please, stop asking me how my day was. You don't really want to know, and quite frankly, I'd be better off forgetting it myself.
