As a follow-up to my rant from earlier, I have a goodly structured example of how to make things better...

I've a friend who I haven't seen a while. Back when we used to run in the same circle, he had a personal tradition I find admirable. He took a week to celebrate his own existence. Taking that week all in one lump was perhaps a little boring, and predictable so he broke it up into seven days, and spread them throughout the year.

The method of celebration was simple - people should be happy during his celebratory week, so he'd help them be so. Each day of the week (so, on each of seven random days during the year), he'd give someone a present. They weren't always expensive, but they were all well-considered. And there was no preamble, it came right out of the blue, and he only explained it in depth if you asked. BAM, you had a gift from someone who thought enough of you to try to make you a bit happier, and that was it. I cannot think of a single time I heard of where it didn't achieve the intended goal.

That is National Prescott Week.
